Tooth-colored fillings are also called composite fillings. They are a safer and more attractive alternative to silver or amalgam fillings. By precisely matching tooth-colored composite fillings with the natural color of your teeth, a skilled cosmetic dentist is able to provide you with white fillings that are virtually invisible. The removal of amalgam fillings can provide patients with white fillings that provide a more pleasing, silver-free smile.
What are they?
Tooth-colored fillings are made of composite resin that is used to fill cavities just like silver amalgam fillings. In addition, because tooth-colored fillings are matched to the color of your own teeth, they are virtually undetectable. Because of the advances in new materials and technologies, tooth-colored fillings have become just as strong as silver fillings. Considering the possible dangers associated with silver amalgam fillings, more and more people choose to have their cavities filled with tooth-colored fillings.
How does it work?
When Dr. Chang-LeMone finishes removing the cavity and creates the tooth preparation, a tooth conditioner is used to remove any organic residue. Then an appropriated amount of tooth-colored resin is bonded to the tooth. The resin is then carefully sculpted to recreate the anatomy of a natural tooth. Once the resin is hardened with a special light, the bite is checked, polished, and smoothed.
